Open Access Information and Policy

We are committed to the rapid and global dissemination of high quality research and practice, through Open Access (OA) and other means. In this way, we seek to maximise the impact and influence of our books and articles.

• We pledge to maintain high ethical standards related to all aspects of the publication process, to provide a personable service to our authors, editors, and reviewers, and to aim towards the most effective propagation of our publications.

• We strive towards fair, transparent and sustainable Open Access models. We support the archiving of scholarly content and the accessibility of relevant data and datasets. We pledge to continuously reassess our publishing fees to ensure they are fair and affordable.

• We believe that anyone should be able to publish OA, regardless of status, geographical location or institutional affiliation. As such, we are committed to assisting our authors to overcome barriers to the publication of their work OA.

As we work towards these aims, we welcome feedback and suggestions. We constantly seek ways to work more closely with relevant partners to further our OA mission.

Permissions

No special permission is required to reuse all or part of article published by Liberty Publishing, including figures and tables. For articles published under an open access Creative Common CC BY license, any part of the article may be reused without permission provided that the original article is clearly cited. Reuse of an article does not imply endorsement by the authors or Liberty Publishing.

Meaning of Open Access

In accordance with major definitions of open access in scientific literature, Liberty Publishing defines open access by the following conditions:

• peer-reviewed literature is freely available without subscription or price barriers,

• literature is immediately released in open access format (no embargo period), and

• published material can be re-used without obtaining permission as long as a correct citation to the original publication is given.

Licenses

Open access book publications require two types of licences:

• An exclusive author or editor agreement giving Liberty Publishing rights to publish and disseminate the book, or a contributor agreement for individual chapters

• A Creative Commons user licence dictating how readers can use the published book or chapter

Liberty Publishing encourages authors to select CC BY, the most liberal form of license allowing for the broadest reuse and distribution of their content.

Advantages of Open Access for Authors

The High Availability and Visibility of our open access articles is guaranteed through the free and unlimited accessibility of the publication over the Internet. Everyone can freely access and download the books published with Liberty Publishing: readers of open access books, i.e., mostly other researchers, do not need to pay any subscription or pay-per-view charges to read books published by Liberty Publishing. Open access publications are also more likely to be included in search engines and indexing databases.

The Higher Citation Impact of open access works results from their high publicity and availability. Open access publications are demonstrably more frequently cited.

Lower Publishing Costs: Open access publishers cover their costs for editorial handling and editing of a paper by charging authors' institutes or research funding agencies. The cost of handling and producing a book is covered through the one-time payment of a book processing charge for each accepted work.

Paying for open access

Open Access books are free for anyone to read and download, all over the world. In order to sustain this model, we charge authors a book processing charge which covers the cost of editorial assistance, book production, indexing, and marketing. Authors interested in OA book publishing are encouraged to contact their institution or funding agency to inquire about the potential for OA support. Liberty Publishing is also committed to assisting authors with potential barriers to publishing OA, so get in touch with us, as we may be able to help. All book proposals are subject to full peer review and standard processing procedures.
